Jeff Bursell is an accomplished and versatile attorney with a proven record of leadership and obtaining great results for his clients. He has extensive experience in representing clients in bankruptcy. He recognizes that, to a lot of people, bankruptcy is a negative word. But Jeff helps clients understand that bankruptcy is not a negative word, only a tool to be used to help people move on with their lives.
Jeff is an effective communicator – able to break down the complexity of bankruptcy in simple terms so his clients are informed, knowledgeable, and ready. He effectively shepherds his clients through the hazards and pitfalls of the bankruptcy process. Adept at negotiating and finding solutions, he helps his clients avoid unnecessary entanglements with trustees, creditors, the Department of Justice, and all of the various players in the bankruptcy arena.
Experienced at researching and understanding the policy reasons behind bankruptcy law, Jeff is always searching for the perfect solution to complex problems. A dedicated and knowledgeable professional, Jeff is committed to excellence in the legal profession.
Jeff has represented over 7,500 bankruptcy clients ranging from the simple to the complex. He has stopped the oppression of a garnishment, protected homes from foreclosure, and defended his clients when they were most vulnerable.
Jeff has two defining moments in his career. First, bankruptcy law went through a major overhaul in 2005. He worked tirelessly to not only understand the new legal requirements (e.g., the means test), but he mastered the new provisions to give his clients a fresh financial start. Second, Jeff helped draft legislation that effectively made Minnesota’s homestead provisions one of the strongest in the country, testifying at a Senate hearing to help effectuate the change.
Jeff is a proud father of 3 children (including twins). Helping them grow and prosper in life brings him happiness outside of work. Finally, spending time outside is critical to life in Minnesota. Jeff usually finds his way onto a golf course to continue his quest for that perfect (i.e. lucky) round.
